Green Food

Green FoodThe diet which we have regularly is probably tasty and healthy enough. But think again, it is not healthy for our mother nature. The packaging, transportation, manufacturing, processing is harming the nature. Hence the concept of green food is fast becoming a trend as it comes with a cause.

It is a myth that eco-friendly diets are expensive, not tasty, as well as consumption of only fruits and vegetables. Absolutely false. Consider the following:-

  • Eco-friendly and organic choice:-Go for a sip of tea or coffee which have traveled the least distance and ensure its organic certification. Organic guarantees that the product is eco-friendly, grown and processed without toxic chemicals. As a result of this there is no water contamination and hence marine life is protected as well. The organic beverages do have a richer taste and aroma when grown in eco-friendly manner.
  • Go local and reduce packaging: - seasonal, local food is a boon to the environment. Most food travels a long distance before reaching your table whereas local food requires negligible transportation, which in turn cuts back the climatic changes. Local food requires less packaging, is a lot fresher and tastier and gives the local supplier expansion opportunities.
  • Avoiding meat: - Avoiding meat is a great way to support green food concept. Meat production affects the environment from causing pollution to using excess land, water and fossil fuel resources. Moreover animals are given antibiotics and growth hormones to meet the rising meat needs. Hence one should opt for a local vegetarian diet.
  • Growing own food:- This is a great fun thing to do in one’s own garden, which will not only give you the joy of eating your own grown veggies but will help the environment in the long run. This is a very nourishing diet, but imposes a total ban on pesticides.
  • Cook it up: - Cook and eat your own grown, healthy, pesticide free vegetables and if possible eat it raw. This will consume less energy and there will be no packaging involved. The leftovers from the plate should be dug into compost for recycling.

Try these out and there will be a sense of satisfaction, that you have done your bit towards a better, greener tomorrow.
