Cosmetics comprise a major part of every woman’s life and find wide areas of application and utility. However, what we fail to recognize are the harmful effects that may be caused by the chemicals used in them on both our health and the health of the environment. It is better to go green and opt for natural skin care instead of using the organic chemicals which might have hazardous effects on a long run and in combination. Here are five natural cosmetic tips, using items you may already have at home that would help you cut on the cost as well.

1. A small jar of mayonnaise blended with half an avocado makes a deep conditioner. Half a cup of mayonnaise, all by itself, also makes a deep conditioner. Spread over hair and leave on for 20 minutes before washing it out.

2. Nail colors have harsh chemicals like phthalates and formaldehyde. But you can dress up your tips and toes naturally with eco-friendly brands free of these toxic chemicals.

3. Equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water can be mixed and massaged into the scalp after washing it, to get rid of stubborn dandruff. The vinegar rinse also gives a shine to brunette hair.

4. Honey acts as a wonderful substitute to chemical facial. Open the pores of your skin by placing warm, damp cloth over it. Spread a few tablespoons of honey over your face and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Gently rub it off with a damp cloth.

5. A quarter cup of olive oil mixed with a quarter cup of baby-oil and one tablespoon of lemon juice acts as an effective makeup remover.

Avocado pulp also makes a wonderful facial and honey, blueberry and lime juice can be used in different combinations for the same purpose. These green cosmetics are eco-friendly as well as skin-friendly. You can use them and make a significant contribution in saving our mother earth.
